All the major changes in patch 7.33: New objects on the map, new hero attribute, changes to the MMR system and all the major innovations
Yuriy SheremetValve has released patch 7.33! Almost all rumours about potential innovations turned out to be true: the game has been drastically redesigned, overhauling virtually every aspect.
Roughly speaking, we face Dota 3. We want to tell you about the main changes of the 7.33 patch, which were so many that they hardly fit into a single text.
New map - now 40% more!
With the release of patch 7.33 the map in Dota 2 has been completely redesigned. This is something we missed with patch 7.32e and something Valve has fixed.
The Dota 2 map is now 40% larger, opening up new possibilities for resource gathering and creating new strategies. The Radiant and Dire forests have been changed in terms of visibility, secret routes and farming.
These changes don't just happen by chance: new objects have been added to Dota 2 that will dramatically change the way the game is perceived.
List of all the new objects in patch 7.33: from Twin Portals to new runes
A total of 9 brand-new objects have been added to Dota 2. And that's not counting the 12 new Neutral Creep Camps!
Dual Gates
Two portals combine the corners of a lightning bolt, allowing players to teleport instantly from one side of the map to the other.
Two Roshan Lairs
Two lairs are located in the northwest and southeast corners of the maps.
Roshan has become even more powerful. He no longer carries Aganim's Shard, but after the second death he gets a Cheese, and after the third, a Shard of Ascension or Aganim's Scepter, depending on which lair he is in.
Lotus Bets
Players can now find Lotus Stakes on the left and right side of the map (near the places where the first waves of Dodgers are encountered). Periodically lotus stakes appear there, which give lies and health.
Players can collect them and then combine them into larger and more valuable lotuses in the later game. And larger lotuses can be combined into a giant lotus.
Tormentors
These are two powerful neutral dills that appear at each base in the 20th minute of the game and save Aganim's wreckage. Tormentors have a mega-shield that deflects most of the damage directed at them. They become more powerful each time you kill them.
Tormentors do not attack first.
Spectators
Contemplators are inactive and neutral at the start of the game, but once activated they grant visibility around them for 7 minutes, or until enemies commit a diversion to temporarily disable them. When a team kills Roshan, all spectators are sidelined.
Defensive Barriers
A gate can be activated to safely escape from enemies. Enemies cannot pass through them and enemies cannot.
Rune of Wisdom and Rune of Protection
Rune of Wisdom increases the experience of a hero wise enough to raise them. Appear in places near your base and enhance your defensive ability, preventing the game from getting completely out of hand in an unfortunate situation.
Rune of Protection creates a shield of 50% of your maximum health
New Outposts
The new, expanded map contains two new outposts, while the old ones have been moved to other locations.
Tired of it? There are many more changes ahead, namely a new character attribute, a redesigned BKB, a new neutral item mining system and more. About it all - in order.

A new type of heroes - universals
With the release of patch 7.33 in Dota 2 there was a "fourth" attribute. Now, in addition to the usual Strength, Dexterity and Intelligence, the game will have heroes-Universal.
Universal heroes are a new group of heroes based on a major attribute, consisting of existing heroes that now get 0.6 damage per attribute.

New hero attribute - new magic immunity mechanic. In Patch 7.33, Valve has redesigned the Black King Bar.
Changed Black King Bar: No longer immune to magic
Activating the Black King Bar now applies basic dispelling and grants 50% resistance to magic and immunity to negative effects. However, if the Black King Bar expires before the negative effects last, they are applied to the rest of the action time.
Effects that break immunity to magic now also break immunity to negative effects.
BKB is sort of dealt with, but what about neutral items? There's a bit of a tricky part here too.
Neutral Item Fallout
Killing a Neutral Creep can now give you a counter that allows you to choose from five items.
Each token gives exactly five options, so even the last player to use their token will have a real choice.
Such a system should diversify the game, but what will really change the game is the new matchmaking system at high levels. In Patch 7.33 Valve introduced the Glicko system, which we covered here.
New MMR system: no more stalking numbers and a certain number of victory points
Dota 2's modified Elo system has been replaced with the Glicko system upon the release of the new patch. Ranked games are now based on several principles:
- All players will enter a brief calibration mode, where they will be seeded according to their previous ranking.
- Calibration will no longer consist of a fixed number of matches. But a player will be considered calibrated if his ranking match is above a certain threshold.
- After calibration it can happen that you will receive a different medal than you had before. However, even if your medal changes significantly, you will still be able to play against players of your own level.
- Matches will no longer give a fixed number of rating points for winning or losing. This amount will vary based on many factors including rating and ranking match. We have, however, limited the maximum numbers per match to avoid particularly negative consequences.
- A player's rating match will gradually decrease if he does not play.
Also, the matches at high levels in MMR will be closer to the professional games thanks to the "Immortal Search" feature. It is available for players with the Immortal ranking and allows randomly chosen team captains to pick their teammates from among the 8 players.
Other important changes in patch 7.33
We will not cover all of the changes to heroes and items in this update (and we will cover these in separate articles). Above we have covered the fundamental changes to the game, but Valve has prepared a few more:
- Neutral creeps improvements. Creeps in neutral camps will get stronger over time, which will make clearing them up in the later stages of the game more difficult.
- Redesigned kill formula. Valve has tweaked the kill reward formula, making early kills more valuable. In addition, the later stages of the game will give less gold for killing creeps and more for killing heroes.
- New mechanics ѕtups. Valve has cut the duration of all stun abilities, which will make the game more dynamic.
Dota 2 has received one of the most extensive upgrades in history. We will continue to review patch 7.33 as we learn more about it, but for now we encourage you to do your own investigation, kill a couple of Tormentors, and use the new Gate to suddenly gank your opponents.
