League of Legends World Championship 2024 (Words 2024) Schedule Released - Plan Your Autumn Vacation

League of Legends World Championship 2024 (Worlds) is the main LoL tournament in 2024. While Long Season is only a few days away, Riot Games has already published important information regarding the decisive tournament in 2024.

League of Legends World Championship 2024 (Words 2024) Schedule and Locations

League of Legends Worlds 2024 will take place in the 14th competitive season in autumn. The World Championship will run from 25 September to 2 November. It is highly recommended that you consider setting aside this period to watch League of Legends at the highest quality, as the event is set to be epic.

The tournament, as before, will be divided into several stages. Unlike the Mid-Season Invitational 2024, which will be held in Chengdu, China, Worlds 2024 will visit several countries at once.

Worlds 2024 locations

1. Play-in and Swiss Stage > Riot Games Arena in Berlin.
2. Quarter-finals and semi-finals > Adidas Arena in Paris.
3. Worlds Finals > O2 Arena in London.

Berlin and Paris are already classic venues for League of Legends World Championships (Worlds was held there in 2015, and in 2019), but London will host a tournament of this class for the first time. Previously, the largest League of Legends event in the UK capital was the Mid-Season Invitational 2023.

Worlds 2024 format: new selection principle for participants and changed slot allocation at Worlds

In 2023, Riot Games significantly changed the format of the League of Legends World Championship (Worlds). The tournament for the first time received the Swiss system of holding, which replaced the classic GSL groups. In 2024 the format will most likely remain the same:

Play-in - Sep 25-29

• Play-In is a double-elimination bracket with 8 teams. Four teams advance to the Swiss round.
• In each group, 3 matches are played in the Double-Elimination format, where the "top winner" from one group will play up to five victories against the "bottom winner" from the other for a place in the next stage - the Swiss Stage.

Swiss System - Oct 3-7 & Oct 10-13

• 16 participants, including MSI 2024 Winner
• 5 rounds in the "Swiss system" format.
• The stage will begin with each team being randomly paired up against a team from a different region. Each of these couples will play more than 1 match.
• Teams with the same results play in the second round (1-0 vs 1-0, 0-1 vs 0-1). Continues until the team reaches 3 wins, which guarantees promotion to the Knockout Stage. Matches for passing to the next stage or through are played up to two victories.

Knockout Stage - Oct 17 - Nov 2

The Knockout Stage will be attended by 8 teams that have passed the Swiss System (group stage). All matches on the Knockout Stage will be played in bo5 format. As before, each round will be played on a separate day.

What has changed is the procedure of team selection at Worlds 2024 and slot allocation. Globally, it remains almost the same: participants get to the main tournament of the year based on the results of the final (summer) splits or regional finals (Europe), but now the winner of Mid-Season Invitational 2024 is added to their number.

In terms of slot allocation, the list of participants now looks like this:

• LEC, LCS, LCK and LPL - 3 slots;
• PCS and VCS - 2 slots;
• LLA and CBLOL - 1 slot.

As stated above, the Mid-Season Invitational 2024 champion automatically qualifies for Worlds 2024, but does NOT take a slot from the general pool of regions. So, if the winner of MSI, for example, is a team from LCK, then there will be 4 teams from South Korea at Worlds 2024. The same applies to the runner-up at MSI 2024: team at the second place at Mid-Season Invitational 2024 will also get a place at MSI 2024, but to do so you need to qualify for the play-offs of the final split in your region.

• All things considered, the total number of Worlds 2024 participants is 20 teams.
