What Happened in Arcane Season 2 Ep. 1 “Heavy is the Crown”
Episode 1 of Arcane's second season, titled "Heavy is the Crown," picks up right where Season 1 ended. Jinx has just launched her Super Mega Death Rocket into Piltover's Council building, where a meeting with Jayce, Mel Medarda, Ambessa Medarda, Caitlyn’s mother, Viktor, and other council members was underway.
As a result of Jinx's attack, Caitlyn's mother is killed. Mel Medarda reluctantly agrees to retaliate against Piltover in response, but without deploying Hextech as a weapon of mass destruction.
In mourning, Caitlyn suggests that Vi join Piltover’s police force to show that not all in Zaun want war with Piltover. However, Vi can’t align herself with those who once killed her parents. Meanwhile, Jayce attempts to save Viktor, who was injured in the attack. By using the power of Arcane, Jayce manages to place Viktor into an artificial coma.
Mel Medarda, now the head of Piltover, announces an impending response to Zaun, essentially declaring war. However, Zaun’s Chem-Baroness intervenes, orchestrating a sabotage attempt on Mel, Caitlyn, Jayce, and Vi. The Baroness of Zaun, whose son Jayce killed in the first season, nearly kills Jayce, but Vi steps in, wielding Jayce’s Hextech Hammer to save him. At the same time, Caitlyn barely survives an assault by Zaun’s modified creatures, only to be rescued at the last moment by Ambessa Medarda and her Noxian warriors.
After this treacherous attack, Caitlyn opens her family archive and makes a decision: Jinx must be eliminated. Vi joins Caitlyn’s mission, with a cover of Linkin Park's “Heavy is the Crown” playing in the background.
The episode concludes with an introduction to Singed, who is wandering a snowy forest in search of something or someone.
What’s Next?
Arcane Season 2’s first episode raises the stakes considerably. Noxus, led by Ambessa Medarda, emerges as a central power and will clearly play a key role in the looming conflict between Piltover and Zaun. Caitlyn’s character undergoes a transformation from a peace-loving, law-abiding sheriff into a determined, resolute hero. Additionally, we’re teased with Viktor’s further transformation, hinting at his pivotal role ahead.
Alongside the release of Episode 1, Netflix has also made available Episode 2, “Watch it All Burn,” and Episode 3, “Finally Got The Name Right.” For more on what happens in these episodes, stay tuned, and don’t forget to check the release schedule for all Arcane Season 2 episodes so you don’t miss a moment of this highly anticipated series.
