The group stage of IEM Sydney 2023 continues with a match between Monte and Complexity. Both teams are members of Basket B.

The confrontation between the Ukrainian and American clubs is one of the matches of the second stream of games of the Long Round of Group B. As before, the format of the meeting is Bo1.

Let's try to figure out which team will be stronger and get a victory here, so that in the next round of IEM Sydney 2023 to play against the winner of the pair G2 - Grayhound.

Monte's form

Let's open the match analysis with an analysis of Monte's form. In this match the Ukrainian club will play as favourites with odds to win at 1.7.

Monte almost never miss tournaments, hence their performances in a lot of TIR-2 events. There are both failures, like the top-16 at CCT South Europe Series #3, and victories, like at CCT West Europe Series #2 and CCT Central Europe Series #5.

However, Monte became famous thanks to his performance at BLAST.tv Paris Major. At the Paris Major, unexpectedly for many, Monte made it to the top 8, but in the first match of play-offs Ledge and GamerLegion.

Before the Long Cologne IEM Cologne 2023 they had a series of unsuccessful tournaments. They finished top-16 at the next CCT, this time North Europe Series #5, and top-8 at the Elisa Invitational Spring 2023.

After a great run at BLAST.tv Major 2023, Monte left the headliner of that roster - BOROS, and was replaced by Astralis Talent member - Danish br0.

Monte rolled out the roster at Play-In IEM Cologne 2023, where they defeated Brazilian teams twice: first Imperial 16-9 and then FURIA 2-1 in the series. Monte beat GamerLegion in the group stage, but were unable to face more serious opponents like Heroic. IEM Cologne 2023 ended with a match against Cloud9. Monte tried, but Ledgeilie more titled club with a score of 0-2.

Before ESL Pro League Season 18 played a number of local championships. Among them were CCT Series tournaments, where Monte finished in the top 4, and top 2 at CCT North Europe Series #7, and there was also Pinnacle Cup V, where the Ukrainian club again finished in the top 4.

In the debut match at ESL Pro League Season 18 they met with the Germans from BIG. As expected, the match was equal, especially on the first two maps, but the decisive one was very lopsided: 16-5 in favour of BIG and Monte fell to the lower grid.

In the first round of the lower grid Monte played with the nominally weakest participants of Basket B - Australians from Rooster. It looked like they were going to close with a 2-0 score, but it turned out that there was no need to be happy before the time, and Monte Ledge were on the first card, but then cameback, thus turning the series in their favour.

In the previous match Monte played against MIBR. As in all other matches on ESL Pro League, the game was tense and hard, but in the end the Brazilians triumphed.

Next, Monte managed to get through the last chance net. First they outplayed Heroic with a score of 1-2, and then took revenge on MIBR.

After a real success in the group, Monte made it to the first round of play-offs. There they showed a very serious level of play, defeating Fnatic, Complexity and then Vitality. They were beaten by NaVi, winning the semi-finals 2-0.

Mapule Monte

Monte's best map is Ancient. There Monte has 7 wins in 9 matches. However, Mirage can also be called a signature choice for the Ukrainian club: it has been played 13 times and won 10 of them.

Things are not bad on Anubis, where Monte has 8 wins and 4 losses.

The worst is Vertigo. There Monte have a statistic of 2-4.

Complexity's form

Complexity are on the 18th line of the world ranking. They got there thanks to their performance during the season.

And it was, frankly, so bad. CoL are remembered for their top 4 at BLAST.tv Paris Major 2023: American RMR.

At the top tournaments, including the Blast Paris Major 2023, CoL were the back of the pack. The team finished in the top 21-28 at EPL S17, and at Major e it was top 20.

CoL started playing a little better in the second half of the year. They were already top six at BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2023.

CoL's "newcomer" was EliGE. The North American CSGO legend joined CoL a month ago, but has already managed to become the leader of the team in KDA with 1.10 rating.

Complexity played at IEM Masters Cologne 2023, where they finished early. CoL crashed out at the Long Cogner Play-In, losing to OG and finishing in the top 24.

CoL partially overcame their failure by winning the local Thunderpick World Championship 2023: North America Series #2. They defeated Nouns in the grand finals.

In the first match at the EPL S18 Complexity faced 9INE. The Poles put up a good fight, but couldn't pull out a win - the result was 2-1 in favour of CoL.

In the match to come here Complexity surprised, perhaps, everyone. They ran over Cloud9 with an ice rink, closing the series 2-0 in their favour.

They didn't manage to play long in the play-offs. CoL went straight to the second round of the main stage, but there they lost to Monte with a 1-2 score, finishing in the top-12.

Before the IEM Sydney 2023 Long Convergence, Monte fuelled themselves with a win on American Blast. They beat Team Liquid 2-0 in the grand final of the qualifier, thus earning themselves a place at the autumn finals.

Complexity's Mappool

Complexity's mappool is pretty sad. The most successful map is Overpass with 5 wins in 9 matches.

They can also play Nuke, Ancient and Anubis. But they have 33% wins each, with a very poor record of 6 and 3 maps respectively.

Head-to-head history

CoL and Monte played each other at ESL Pro League Season 18. Monte triumphed then, winning the series 2-1.

Predicted result of Monte vs Complexity at IEM Sydney 2023

This match should be one of the most internationally heresy encounters of the first round of IEM Sydney 2023 in Group B. And The International hereeresque in all respects.

The storyline between the teams is there, Monte's difficult road to the tournament is there, and there's a morale boost for CoL, who recently won the BLAST Premier: Fall American Showdown 2023. So there's also CS2. All in all, it should be very hot and on paper the matchup looks like a game of close teams. Still, I have more faith in Monte.
